Police parade principals, teachers over leaked WAEC questions

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Headquarters, yesterday, paraded 17 suspects for their involvement in various examination malpractices in the just-concluded West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in some states across the country.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Headquarters, yesterday, paraded 17 suspects for their involvement in various examination malpractices in the just-concluded West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in some states across the country.

The arrest of the suspects was consequent upon the renewed partnership between the body and the Police aimed at ensuring and promoting the integrity of examination processes in the country.

The suspects are principal, teachers and staff of various secondary schools in Bauchi, Kano, Rivers and Nasarawa states. Parading the suspects before journalists, yesterday, in Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Frank Mba, said investigations by Police operatives revealed that they used their privileged positions as invigilators, supervisors and school functionaries during the WASSCE to encourage varying degrees of examination malpractices, including online transmission of examination questions and answers on various social media platforms.

The suspects- Daye West, 52; Shalom Essien, 39; Anyanwu Precious, 27; Hanson Beloved, 38; Ali Musa, 46; Umar Mohammed, 50; Isa Abdullahi Arikya, 39; Hamisu Haussaini Abdullahi, 33; Maharazu Sabo, 41; Yusuf M. Mailafiya, 55; Sule Bukata Garba  ‘m’ 40yrs, Wudana K. Solomon, 30- were arrested in Kano, Rivers, Nasarawa and Bauchi states. 

Mba noted that Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, had assured the examination body of continuous support to discourage examination malpractices and bring perpetrators to book.

“He also enjoins parents, guardians, students and all other stakeholders in the examination processes to cooperate with the Police and the exam body towards bringing an end to examination malpractice in the country,” he stated.

The FPRO, who warned parents, candidates and teachers against engaging in examination malpractice, added that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.
