Nigerian Police Force (NPF)

The ongoing nationwide police recruitment exercise recorded a major milestone in Delta State as no fewer than 1,872 shortlisted candidates successfully sat for the Police Constable Examination conducted by the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The examination forms part of the Federal Government’s broader initiative to recruit 50,000 police constables across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aimed at strengthening internal security and improving effective policing nationwide.

The candidates, drawn from the 25 local government areas of Delta State, participated in the exercise held at the Dome Event Centre under tight security and strict supervision by officials of the PSC and the Force Headquarters.

The monitoring team was led by Anthonnette Ofugare alongside DCP Rita Emesim from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, who oversaw the conduct of the examination to ensure compliance with the guidelines for a transparent and merit-based recruitment process.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, paid an unscheduled visit to the examination centre during the exercise and expressed satisfaction with the orderly and peaceful conduct of the process.

The police commissioner commended Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for establishing a standing committee dedicated to youth enlistment into military and paramilitary services, describing the initiative as commendable and worthy of emulation by other states across the country.

According to him, the committee has continued to play a strategic role in mobilising and sensitising young people in the state to embrace career opportunities in the nation’s security services.

Some of the candidates who spoke after the examination expressed optimism about their performance and praised the transparent nature of the exercise.

Many described the recruitment process as well-organised, free of irregularities, and professionally coordinated, adding that the smooth conduct of the examination boosted their confidence in the fairness of the recruitment exercise.

Speaking on the development, the Acting Chairman of the Delta State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment into Military and Paramilitary Services, Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, described the exercise as credible, peaceful, and result-oriented.

Oghenesivbe expressed confidence that Delta State would successfully fill its allocated quota of 1,351 police constables at the conclusion of the recruitment exercise.

He disclosed that candidates who scale through the examination stage would proceed to medical screening, which constitutes the next phase of the recruitment process.

The committee chairman further stated that the state government would intensify public enlightenment campaigns to encourage more youths to take advantage of opportunities available in the military and paramilitary services as part of efforts to reduce unemployment and strengthen national security institutions.

The nationwide police recruitment exercise is expected to boost manpower within the Nigeria Police Force amid growing concerns over insecurity and the need for improved community policing across the country.
