The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued a Ghanaian national, Sammed Iddrisu, who was deceptively trafficked into Nigeria under the pretence of obtaining travel documents for migration to Europe.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
According to the statement, the operation was carried out on June 27, 2025, in Abuja by operatives of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, working in collaboration with officers from the FCT Command. The rescue followed credible intelligence received from INTERPOL NCB Accra, Ghana, on June 16, 2025.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim’s father, Mr. Nartey Louda, was defrauded of GHC 55,000 on January 10, 2025, by a trafficker identified as Attah. The suspect had falsely promised to procure a French visa and other travel documents for the victim, prompting Sammed to travel to Abuja on June 25, 2025, in anticipation of collecting the documents.
However, upon arrival in Nigeria, the victim was unlawfully detained and coerced into participating in internet-based fraudulent activities linked to the QNET pyramid scheme, which masquerades as an e-commerce business. Another Ghanaian victim managed to escape and reported the crime upon returning to Ghana, leading to swift international collaboration and rescue operations.
ACP Adejobi stated that the INTERPOL NCB Abuja has since launched efforts to apprehend all individuals connected to the syndicate and ensure they are brought to justice.
The police urged the public to remain vigilant, verify all travel-related opportunities through official diplomatic channels, and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities.
