Apparently reacting to insinuations that in previous elections miscreants do hijack voting materials, the Akwa Ibom state Police Commissioner, Mr. Murtala Mani, has warned such people to stay away from polling units during today’s re-run election in the state.

He gave this warning while speaking with journalists in his office on the preparations of his command towards the re-run election.

“We do not have any room for miscreants in the state. If miscreants think they are ready, we are more prepared than them,” he said.

He warned politicians not to enter polling booth with arms or any escort during the elections, adding that those entitled for police escort should drop such escorts behind while voting.

“We do not allow anybody to near the polling booths with armed escorts, it is not allowed,” he added.

The police boss said that the police have made adequate arrangements regarding the conduct of the re-run, stressing that adequate protection is being put in place for all flashpoints and areas prone to security disturbances.
