There are fears that peace and security may elude Imo State soon, if the threats by a faceless group to bomb the Government House and other facilities are anything to go by.The state Police Commissioner, Taiwo Frederick Lakanu, said this yesterday in Owerri, the state capital.

According to him, the group released a recorded audiocassette, where it threatened to bomb the Government House, World Bank, Central Mosque and Relief Market, all located in Owerri and its environs.

In a statement issued on Tuesday evening by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Andrew Enwerem, it urged residents to be on the alert and report suspicious movements to the police.

He said the command’s attention was drawn to the message circulating in the social media, which mentioned the targets of their planned operations.“Based on the information, the CP has directed that security be beefed up around the state. He has also deployed both overt and covert operatives, while the Bomb Disposal Unit has been directed to sweep the aforementioned areas to avert any breakdown of law and order,” he said.

The police chief advised, “the general public to go about their lawful businesses without panic, as the security agencies would do everything possible to ensure the security of lives and property, while effort is being made to identify the faceless reporter.”

The command, in another statement warned miscreants to stay away from the polling units, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) plans to conduct rerun elections in Imo North Senatorial districts and some state assembly seats.

The statement affirmed: “The Imo North Senatorial, Oru East and Isiala Mbano House of Assembly supplementary elections in the affected units may hold today tomorrow.”He added that the police would restrict movement in the affected local council areas.
