A former Governor of Oyo State, Sen. Rashidi Ladoja, has scored INEC high in the conduct of the governorship and house of assembly elections.

Ladoja, while addressing newsmen shortly after casting his vote around 1 p.m. at unit 13, ward 10, Old Bodija area in Ibadan,
described the exercise as an improvement on the presidential and national assembly elections.

He noted that the electioneering process was fast enough, with accreditation very quick and everybody happy.

“The boxes were nearly full. I can not say whether the turnout was good or not because initially, we used to come out here to accredit after which we will go and then come back to vote.

“But nowadays, we do the two simultaneously and within two or three minutes, you are through. The decision to stay back or to leave is now left to you,” he said.

Ladoja urged INEC to live up to the expectations of Nigerians and ensure that the election was free and fair.

On the report of violence in some areas, the former governor, said “we cannot avoid violence because our people can be overzealous.

“In fact, when there is no violence, people can be very happy. So while they are happy that their candidates are winning, those whose candidates are not winning may be sad.

“This can lead to anything, but I don’t think that anybody will go out to say I am going to cause trouble,” he said.

Similarly, the Senator-elect for Oyo South Senatorial District, Alhaji Sharafadeen Alli, has commended INEC for improving on the last elections.

He said that the materials and officials arrived on time and that the exercise was smooth, as recorded in the Feb. 25 elections.

He urged security agencies to keep up the good work and beef up security in the areas reported to be experiencing violence.
