Poor weather disrupts Osinbajo’s visit to Ondo

Mimiko commissions Dome in Acting President’s absence

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday explained that his absence at Ondo to commission the International Event Centre, called the DOME, was due to bad weather.

Osinbajo said in a tweet last night by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande.He expressed “sincere apologies to the government and people of Ondo State.‎”

The trip had been scheduled in continuation of his tour of the oil-producing communities, which earlier took him to Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Imo States.

According to Akande, Osinbajo was already air-borne when weather report indicated dusty haze and very poor visibility at the Akure Airport and other alternative airports nearby.

Meanwhile, Governor Olusegun Mimiko yesterday commissioned the centre in Osinbajo’s absence.Mimiko, said the event centre was part of his administration’s drive to boost the state’s economy.

According to him, the DOME also represents his commitment to turning the state into a tourist centre due to its strategic location in the heartbeat of Akure, the state capital.

He explained that the centre, which is “unarguably the best in the country today,” was of international standard and has hosted several events since its completion last year.

Former Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), Olu Falae, commended the governor, whose second tenure would end on Friday, for his “penchant for the welfare of the people.”
