Practitioners lament impact of quackery in security industry

Abia State Chapter of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN) has identified quackery as a major challenge in the industry, describing the scenario as worrisome.

ALPSPN chairman in the state, Ndubuisi Iheanacho disclosed this when he led a delegation of members on a visit to  Abia State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC),  Paul  Igwebuike in Umuahia, the state capital.

He told the commandant that the quackery has reached a worrisome dimension that needs urgent confrontation hence the ALPSPN solicited the commandant’s intervention and synergy towards sustainable improvement of the security level of the state.

Reacting, the Commandant assured  ALPSPN  that the issue of quackery will no longer thrive following measures put in place by the NSCDC Commandant-General Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi to rid the industry of quacks.

Igwebuike charged the ALPSPN operatives in the state to redouble their efforts in intelligence information gathering.

He noted that they have the advantage of occupying the lower rung of security arrangements in the country and therefore are in position to feed the NSCDC  with actionable intelligence information.

The Commandant stressed the possibility of extending training to ALPSPN operatives, which he said are prerequisites for effective security service delivery.

He said: “We are aware that providing security is an onerous task in which no individual or agency of government can claim monopoly of knowledge and strategy.

“Your members are even closer to the residents/locals who volunteer useful security intelligence information, which you are expected to regularly transmit  to the NSCDC  for further processing and necessary action.”
