Pregnant woman, eight others burnt to death in Kwara auto crash

A pregnant woman and eight other passengers were yesterday burnt to death in a multiple road accident along Ilorin end of Ogbomoso-Ilorin Expressway.
  
The Guardian learnt that eight male passengers also sustained multiple injuries.
   
It was learnt that the crash, involving a white–coloured Toyota Hiace passenger bus and an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla car marked LRN 787 FE, occurred at about 8:05a.m. close to the main entrance gate of Ilorin International Airport road.
   
One of the vehicles involved was said to be carrying petrol-filled Jerry cans, while the drivers of the two vehicles were driving without national drivers licence.
   
Sources in Kwara State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said the Lagos-bound passenger bus, loaded at the Gerin Alimi Motor Park, Ilorin was heading outwards the metropolis, before it rammed into the private vehicle.
    
According to the sources, a total of 20 passengers were involved, while a male and eight females died in the accident.
 
It was learnt that the commercial vehicle had barely spent five minutes on the road before the accident occurred.
   
The private vehicle, said to be coming out of the airport, was on top speed when it allegedly rammed into the oncoming commercial bus.

Kwara State FRSC, Sector Commander, Jonathan Owoade, who confirmed the accident, described it as unfortunate.
   
He said the injured passengers were taken to the General Hospital, Ilorin by passers-by, before his men arrived at the scene, adding that the deceased were taken to the morgue of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) , Oke Oyi by  FRSC rescue and patrol teams.
