Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Samuel Kanu Uche, has called for peaceful elections next year. He insisted that the exercise must not be postponed, even as he said the polls must be free and fair.

Addressing a press conference, yesterday, during his Apostolic/ Valedictory Tour of the Archdiocese at Wesley Chapel, Lekki, Lagos, he also expressed concern over present state of the nation.

The cleric said: “The 2023 general elections should never be postponed. The polls must also be free and fair. Elected leaders must provide employment, skill acquisition and agric revolution. We should also emphasise production rather than consumption.”

He advised the electorate to judiciously cast their votes, advising: “If they give you money, collect it, but don’t vote for them. Vote for candidates of your choice.”

Uche opposed the consensus candidate arrangement, stressing that standard-bearers should emerge on basis of fairness.

He also faulted the ‘commercialisation’ of politics, where presidential candidates pay as high as N100 million to pick nomination forms.
