Presidential aspirant engages community of people with disabilities

African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Chukwuka Monye, at the weekend, met with leaders of the community of Persons With Disability (PWDS) in Abuja. They were led by the party’s Deputy National Chairman, Strategy, Innovation and Disabilities, Dr. Chike Okogwu.

In attendance were Janet Alabede from the Network of Disabled Women, Christian Agbo of the Qualitative Magazine, Jane Okeoghene from the National Association of the Blind, Abuja chapter, Favour Adjara, representing Centre for Ability, Rehabilitation and Empowerment (CARE) and Martha Athanasius of the Nigerian National Association of the Deaf (NNAD)/Abuja Association of the Deaf.

Others are Afam Kassimawuna from The Albino Foundation (TAF), Success Uzuazor, Sign Language Interpreter, and Ngozi Okechukwu from Guide for the Blind.

During the meeting, Monye engaged the community leaders on some of the peculiar challenges PWDs face nationwide and made a number of recommendations on how to effectively address them. He pledged to create an inclusive and enabling environment for all to thrive.

The aspirant maintained that Nigeria belongs to everyone, and as such, everybody deserves the opportunity to maximise his or her potential.
