Private schools, universities forge alliance to enhance educational standards

The yearly forum of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Oyo State chapter has forged an alliance with private universities with the aim of restoring the strong academic prowess, once associated with Nigerian varsities.

This was disclosed by NAPPS President, Oyo chapter, Dr Mary Odedare, after a meeting with Vice Chancellor of Lead City University and Chairman of Committee of Vice Chancellors and Registrars of Private Universities, Prof. Kabiru Adeyemo, in Ibadan ahead of the forthcoming forum with private universities, tagged Oyo NAPPS Educational Fair, to be held at the University of Ibadan, from October 19 to 22.

Enumerating the programme’s objectives, Odedare said the meeting stems from their deliberation on how private secondary schools can work in consonance with private universities to improve the standard of tertiary education in Nigeria.

Odedare said: “The proposed Educational Fair is a process of ensuring that school authorities groom their SS3 students, A ‘Level students and JAMB candidates to achieve excellent results that make them suitable for admission into private universities.”

Responding, Adeyemo said the fair would go a long way in revitalising the dwindling standard of education in Nigeria, especially at the university level.

He added that the event would help private universities reflect on the quality of the various courses they offer. “This would enable prospective students, and those who will attend with their parents to get counseling from representatives of the universities on matters that pertain to the mode of their tutoring and other matters relating to studies.”
