Pro-Biafra agitators fault bail denial to Kanu
THE Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) has criticised Justice John Tsoho of the Abuja Federal High Court, for denying bail to its leader and director of Radio Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, saying that it was wrong for the judge to rest his decision on fears that Kanu might commit the offence again.
The pro-Biafra agitators regretted that the judge’s utterances were prejudicial since, according to them, “Kanu has not been tried in court and convicted to warrant the claim that “he might commit the offence again,” adding that it must be that the judge misspoke.
In a statement signed by Emma Nmezu and Dr. Clifford Chukwuemeka Iroanya, director of campaign and publicity respectively, IPOB said the three reasons given by the court to refuse Kanu bail, including threat to national security and possibility of jumping bail, are unsustainable.
“While the first and the third reasons are very clear but unsustainable statements, we are at a loss with the second reason and do not know exactly what the Honourable Justice meant by “might commit the same offence again,” the statement said.
IPOB contended that “to the best of our knowledge, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has not even been tried in court, not to talk of being convicted.
