Efforts by Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State and some leaders to prevent Tarabans from joining the nationwide protest have turned out to be a mirage.

The Guardian observed on Thursday that major highways in Jalingo, the state capital were taken over by protesters.

Armed with posters of various inscriptions, the protesters who were in large numbers chanting various songs, called on President Bola Tinubu, to bring down the prices of goods.

Citing the removal of fuel subsidy which according to them led to the current economic hardship confronting Nigerian citizens, the need for him to bring down the price of petrol pump price, they said has become necessary.

The protesters, who said they are fed up with the Tinubu’s administration, vowed not to cease from protesting pending when their demands are addressed by the leadership of the country.

At the time of filing this report, the protesters vowed to resist any attempt for the security operatives to disrupt the ongoing peaceful exercise.

Some of the security operatives who spoke with our correspondent, called on the protesters to go about the exercise in a peaceful manner.

At the time of filing this report, business activities have been crippled as all public places which include markets, government offices among others have been shut down.

Owners of shops spread across the Jalingo metropolis who did not only shut down their shops were also observed to have evacuated their goods from their shops to their areas of residence.

Heavily armed security operatives were also observed to have a created a defence wall in all government-owned warehouses spread across the state capital.
