Council says 5000 jobs recruitment to begin soon
Public affairs analyst, David Sikpa, has condemned the call by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), asking the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, to resign for declaring interest to contest the 2023 presidential election.
The NYCN had, in a communiqué at the end of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, argued that Amaechi’s sudden declaration of interest in presidency showed no ‘strand of care’ for the victims of Kaduna train attack.
But in Port Harcourt, yesterday, Sikpa expressed dismay that such statement was coming from a body, which claims to be a representative of Nigerian youths and wondered what its intention was.
Sikpa urged the youth body to organise itself and make the desired impacts in the nation and not allow themselves to be used for selfish gains only.
He said: “Nigerians, including the victims, have not indicted the minister in anyway as his humanity was demonstrated when he immediately along with security agencies, visited the scene of the Kaduna train attack and commiserated with the victims. Nigerians felt the pulse of his sadness over the news and it was clear the security and safety of travellers have always been a priority to him (Amaechi)”
The analyst, in the statement made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, noted that President Muhammadu Buhari, has confidence in the minister, saying no amount of sponsored campaign would change that.
MEANWHILE, the Council, yesterday, reassured youths in Rivers State that the 5,000 jobs promised by the state Governor, Nyesom Wike, will commence before the 2023 general election.
State Chairman of the council, Chijioke Ihunwo, disclosed this at a press conference in Port Harcourt. Ihunwo said: “Following the 5000 employment opportunities promised by the Rivers State Government last year, I have been in touch with the governor. I want to make a very passionate appeal to our youths to be very patient with the state government.
“We have held several meetings and indeed the government has said they are going to do the employment. This does not mean that there has not been employment, employment has been going on in some parastatals in the state but the 5000 jobs being promised by the government, shall be fulfilled by the governor.
