- New electric vehicle charging station opens at Marriott Ikeja
In a move that signals growing momentum for electric mobility in Nigeria, Qoray, a leading provider of clean energy transport solutions, has launched a new electric vehicle (EV) charging station at the Marriott Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.
The facility, located at Car Park B2 of the high-profile hospitality and business complex, is now fully operational and open to the public. It marks another milestone in Qoray’s drive to expand Nigeria’s EV infrastructure and improve accessibility for both local and visiting drivers.
Positioned strategically in one of Lagos’ busiest commercial corridors, adjacent to Airport Road and Ikeja GRA, the charging station is aimed at meeting the needs of a diverse user base. From hotel guests and conference attendees to commuters navigating Lagos’ urban core, the location offers both visibility and convenience.
Qoray’s Chief Executive Officer, Olabanjo Alimi, described the new installation as a practical step towards fostering sustainable urban transport in Nigeria. “We are proud to bring Qoray’s clean energy solutions to a prime location like Marriott Hotel,” Alimi said. “Our goal is to reduce the barriers to EV adoption by building accessible and dependable infrastructure in the places where people work, stay, and play. This station isn’t just about convenience, it’s about empowering individuals and businesses to make greener choices.”
The facility includes a DC fast charger, enabling quicker turnarounds for EV users. While EV adoption in Nigeria remains in its early stages, experts say the presence of publicly accessible charging infrastructure is a crucial factor in encouraging wider uptake.
Marriott Hotel Ikeja’s General Manager, Lakshmanan Ramanathan, noted that the collaboration aligns with the global brand’s sustainability goals. “This partnership with Qoray aligns with Marriott’s global commitment to sustainability and innovation,” he said. “By offering EV charging on our premises, we are not only enhancing the guest experience but also supporting a shift toward environmentally conscious travel. We welcome all guests and Lagos residents to take advantage of this new amenity.”
Industry analysts have repeatedly cited infrastructure development as one of the key barriers to EV adoption in Nigeria, alongside cost and public awareness. Qoray’s rollout of new stations, particularly in high-traffic and high-visibility locations, aims to close this gap.
The company is also inviting other property owners, corporate entities and state governments to support the nationwide expansion of EV charging networks.
