The statement announcing his death is currently running on the Radio station in place of its popular Efik programme which was anchored by the late presenter.

A source told The Guardian that some hoodlums were beating up a woman and when he tried to intervened, they attacked and hacked him to death.

“Mr. David Ekanem aka ‘Itiat Zion’ was stabbed while asking a group of boys to stop manhandling a woman at Ikot Ansa,” the source said. “They got angry that he asked them to stop beating the woman, so they stabbed him to death.”
