Rainstorm destroys property worth N500m at Ekwueme varsity
Heavy rainstorm yesterday wrecked havoc at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Aleke in Ikwo Local Council of Ebonyi State, destroying property worth over N500 million.
The storm disrupted both economic and academic activities in the school as students and members of staff of the institution were seen in groups discussing the incident when The Guardian visited the school.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, said that he was shocked and devastated when he got the news, adding that he had to call off his meeting in Enugu.
“It’s scary and worrisome. What do we do? The destruction is massive; not just in terms of the roofs and buildings but also laboratory, computers, tables, files, computers, books and others. It’s not good at all,” he lamented.
One of the students, a 200-Level student of Linguistics, who identify her name as Chioma, said the rain was so much that she lost almost everything in her house, including her vital documents.
