To reduce cases of glaucoma, especially among indigent patients, members of the Redeemed Christian Church of
God (RCCG) Dominion Sanctuary, ACME, Ikeja Lagos, recently donated
equipment and cash to the Orile-Agege General Hospital, Lagos State
towards its ‘Annual Glaucoma Week.’

The equipment comprises fifty assorted eye glass frames and a cash donation of N250,000 to support fifty patients.

In his speech, Minister-in-Charge, CSR Department, Prof. Olugbenga Ogunmoyela, stated that the CSR Department of the RCCG is an initiative of the RCCG Mission under the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, to showcase the church’s sense of responsibility towards the community and the environment in which it operates.

Ogunmoyela, who represented Pastor-in-Charge of Region 19 and Intercontinental Missions Coordinator, Pastor Brown Oyitso, revealed that the CSR initiative of the church is built on eight pillars: social, health, education, media and communication, business and economy, arts, culture and entertainment, governance and sports (SHEMBAGS).

To him, “the cash donation and glass frames cover fifty glaucoma patients as we were informed that during the Glaucoma Week, each patient is expected to pay a token of N5000 for a pair of glasses. So technically, our donations will cover 100 patients.”

Besides, he assured the hospital of the church’s continued support as a similar visit is planned for September 8, when the Church will also be donating some bed linens to the 140-bed hospital.

Also present to lend support and grace the occasion were Pastor Bayo Okeniyi who led the commissioning team and Dcns Iyabo Akai, ably representing the RCCG Dominion Sanctuary Pastorate.

Expressing the hospital’s appreciation, the Medical Director of the General Hospital, Dr. Adesola Ayodele Pitan, who was represented by the Director of Clinical Services, Dr. Olayemi Taiwo, noted that for the church to partner with the hospital on glaucoma reduction was a highly commendable gesture.

The church, according to her, is giving hope and faith to many patients who are at the risk of losing their sight completely.
