Rector commends FG for removal of B.Sc, HND dichotomy

The new Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Dayo Oladebeye, has commended the Federal Government for implementing the policy that would remove the dichotomy between Bachelors Degree and Higher National Diploma (HND) holders.

Oladebeye argued that the decision would boost technical education in the country, as it would increase the number of those seeking admission into polytechnics.

He also read the riot act to the students who indulge in willful damage of school property, saying the institution would henceforth impose stringent sanctions against such act.

He condemned students resident in hostels who carry out willful damage on electricity fittings and furniture, as their action was draining the finances of the polytechnic.

Oladebeye, who assumed office two weeks ago following the expiration of Dr. Theresa Akande’s tenure, said the management has begun a radical restructuring at the Continuous Education Centre (CEC) to increase its internally generated revenue.

He made the statement at the weekend while administering oaths on the new National Diploma (ND) and HND students for the 2018/2019 academic session.

“In as much as management has been striving within the limits of available resources to make the environment conducive, there is a nagging issue of constant destruction of electrical fittings and willful damage of furniture in the classrooms and hostels.

“The huge sum usually spent to replace the fittings and renovate the hostels and classrooms is much and is telling on our finances.

“To stem this destructive instinct of a few among you, we want you to know that academic freedom does not translate to academic lawlessness.

“It is, therefore, important that you know that each occupant of the hostels and colleagues in the classrooms, studio, laboratories and workshop will be held responsible for any further damages,” he said.
