Red Cross moves to reunite 3,000 missing persons in N’East

International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has said about 24,000 families are searching for their missing loved ones in Nigeria.

It explained that some 16,000 relations still look for displaced relatives in the 14-year insurgency in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.

Unveiling the Radio Name-Tracing Programme (RTP), yesterday, in Maiduguri, ICRC’s Data Analysis Officer, Sidikat Nasiru., noted: “In a week, 25 families wanted to find their missing loved ones through our links on a toll-free phone number: 080050004000.”

She added that the target was to link 3,000 missing persons during conflict in the Northeast.

Meanwhile, 150 children have been reunited with their parents and guardians in the region.

Nasiru attributed the challenge of linking the missing persons to difficult terrains, as ICRC does not use military escorts.
