FORMER Governor of Anambra State and retired federal permanent secretary, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has said that any attempt to remove the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, now that the economy is on a southward movement will be grossly irresponsible.

Ezeife noted, “If society is to work, lines of responsibility should be drawn”.

“There are responsibilities, there are dedicated services; things you are supposed to do when you are asked by some people to do it.”

The former governor noted that laws are made to show lines of responsibility stressing that it is to ensure that society works that the lines of responsibility are drawn.

He added: “If a directive comes legitimately from the right quarters, I would be a failure if I do not execute it. And if I execute the directive, I should not be punished for doing my job. If you sack a CBN governor for doing a legitimate job, obeying legitimate order; you go too far.”

While noting that some CBN governors may have misguided themselves, he contended that the office of the CBN governor should be independent enough to shield it from every wind of partisan flavor, adding that those who have actions therefore, if there is a conspiracy to do the wrong things should be punished for acting without asking questions.
