Reps postpone resumption, to inaugurate panel probing NNPC

The House of Representatives has postponed of its resumption from recess to September 24, 2024.

This follows a rescheduling from the original date of September 17, 2024, as communicated to the lawmakers via an internal memo by the Clerk of the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Esq., on Wednesday, on the directive of the House Leadership.

Spokesman of the House, Akin Rotimi, in a statement, also disclosed that upon reconvening, the leadership of the House will inaugurate the new board of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) and the Joint Senate/House Ad Hoc Committees on the Petroleum Industry Investigation on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

The lower chamber had in August reconstituted the adhoc Committee probing the importation of adulterated petroleum products into the country and other infractions in the nation’s oil and gas sector.

Previously a stand-alone committee, the seven-member panel would work with their counterparts in the Upper Chamber to investigate the alleged economic sabotage within the petroleum industry.

Rotimi observed that during the recess, the lawmakers engaged extensively in constituency outreach across the country, addressing critical issues of concern to constituents, and deepening oversight of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), by functions spelled out in the 1999 Constitution (As Amended) and the House Standing Orders.

“As the 10th Assembly resumes, it will continue to drive its Legislative Agenda, focusing on impactful reforms aimed at national development and fulfilling its mandate to the Nigerian people,” he said.
