Reps seek N’Assembly’s take-over of Kogi House

• Directs IGP to seal off premises

The House of Representatives has passed a resolution for the National Assembly to take over the Kogi State House of Assembly over the crisis, which resulted in the impeachment of the Speaker, Momoh Jimoh-Lawal.

The House decision came following the recommendation of its 10-man intervention delegation in the wake of the crisis.

However, the resolution is subject to concurrence of the Senate chamber for it to have effect.

Meanwhile, the House, which yesterday also directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, to seal off the state Assembly premises until the National Assembly deemed it fit to be reopened, said it predicated its position on section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Also, the Chamber while declaring as “unconstitutional and illegal,” the action of the five lawmakers who purportedly sacked the Speaker, condemned the embarrassing action of the lawmakers, allegedly spearheaded by Umar Imam.

The House delegation, which was led by the Deputy Majority Whip of the House of Representatives, Pally Iriase, in its report presented before the parliament, and adopted by the House yesterday said it found out that the House of Assembly had been under lock since the suspension of plenary on February 15, 2016 as none of the feuding groups had been able to hold any meeting in the chamber.

Further findings, according to the delegation were that; “the division in Kogi State cuts across party line and it is prone to violence and insecurity”, and that Jimoh-Lawal deliberately misled his group of 15 members into avoidable collision with the governor of the state, while also describing as “condemnable,” the action of the Imam-led group of five members to rely on a non-existent court injunction to scuttle the constitutional function of the House of Representatives, as they shun the delegation.

Most often ,there are some Shows which are shows of shame . And again ,it would appear our politicians don’t realize that some of their actions are read on the line Why all the time , the Impeachment is always impromptu , no process is ever followed . The minority decisions overwhelming the decisions of the majority members . With the rancor going on , so also the emoluments are going on too .Lord have mercy on us .Nigeria I hail thee .
