Reps task security agencies on threat

•APC decries separatist agitations in Nigeria
The House of Representatives yesterday called on other security agencies to be vigilant to forestall a breakdown of law and order nationwide following the October 1, 2017 eviction notice given to the Igbo to leave the north by 16 youth groups.

Debating a motion moved by Oghene Egoh (PDP, Lagos), the lawmakers, who condemned the threat in strong terms, urged the Federal Government to avert a national crisis that could result in loss of lives and destruction of properties.

According to him, “the House is concerned that the two calls create an alarming twist which is ominous for the good health of Nigerians.

“The House is further concerned that this motion is not interested in the merit or demerit of Biafra, nor is it interested in apportioning blames on those who made the two unpatriotic calls.

“Rather this is only a concern for the nation’s leaders to immediately intervene to stop these agitations from resulting in violence that may consume the entire nation.”

Consequently, the chamber urged both parties to rescind their decisions.

Also yesterday, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) decried the increasing rate of separatist agitations in the country.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, party submitted that the development was unhealthy for the nation’s fledgling democracy, development, unity and cohesion.

The APC strongly condemns any utterance, ultimatum or actions that threaten the corporate existence of the country.

Expressing confidence in the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book, the party insists that despite prevailing challenges, the nation’s strength lies in the diversity of its populace.

“This we must use to our advantage in our quest to lift the country to its deserved heights, “it said adding that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration was doing its best to accommodate all Nigerians, irrespective of religious, tribal and political affiliations,” he said.
