A building has collapsed in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, with emergency responders conducting search and rescue operations at the scene.

Men of the FCT Fire Service are currently carrying out rescue operations, while three ambulances have been deployed to the site.

The FCT Police Command said it received a distress call about the collapse at about 7:45 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026.

A police response team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, ACP Edward Akaniyene, and the Area Commander, Metro, ACP Georgelyn Ufomadu, promptly responded to the scene.

Personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Fire Service (FFS), Security Service Department, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and other emergency response agencies have also joined the search and rescue operation.

The FCTA Development Control Department had earlier sealed the building and ordered its occupants to vacate the premises.

According to the police, preliminary investigations showed that the building had previously been marked and sealed by the Development Control Department.

No casualties have been confirmed so far, the Command said, although search and rescue operations are continuing to determine whether anyone is trapped beneath the rubble.

The police said an investigation was also underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the collapse and its possible cause.

The Command urged residents to remain calm, avoid the affected area and cooperate with emergency responders to facilitate the rescue operation.
