Some residents of Lafia and its environs on Friday commended the Nasarawa State Water Board for restoring water supply to the area after two months of shortage.

They made the commendation in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia.
NAN reports that six local government areas of Doma, Keana, Obi, Awe, Lafia and Nassarawa-Eggon, had experienced water shortage due to technical problems experienced by the water board.

Mrs Esther Namo, a resident of Lafia, described the two months without water supply as “life before the 20th century where you carry buckets and plastic containers on your head in search of water.

“It was not easy. The water vendors even capitalised on the problem and hiked their prices and we had no option but to patronise them,’’ Namo said.

She thanked the government for the efforts made to restore water to the affected areas.

Another resident of Lafia, Malam Adamu Usman, said he was forced to disconnect from the state water supply and connect to borehole as major source of water supply.

“Government needs to accord priority to the issue of water supply because it is a basic necessity, we hope this current supply will be sustained,’’ Usman said.

Miss Rebecca Dominic, another resident of Lafia, commended the water board for the restoration of water supply to the area despite the hardship she and her family experienced during the shortage.

“We are happy. Before now we were buying water everyday but now that they have released the water, we are happy. We will save our money for other needs,’’ Dominic said.

The General Manager of the Nasarawa State Water Board, Mr Simon Adigidzi, said the shortage of water supply in the areas was due to technical challenges which had been rectified.
