DESPITE publications in newspapers and calls for intervention by residents to the relevant authorities, the Five Star Bus Stop road in Lagos is still in a poor state.
Residents and motorists who ply the route lament that the government has neglected the road for too long. Recently they decided to speak against the state government and people representing the area in different political offices.
One of the residents of the area, Mama Solomon, said the people of the area have waited long enough without any sign that the government will repair the road. ‘’It’s no longer news that we have been neglected by the government, but it’s a shame that the area lacks good representatives in government. The people representing us are only after what they will eat. Motorcyclists rent pumping machine to drain water on the road after rain to prevent the area from being flooded” she said.
Laseez Ogunsola, a taxi driver said: ‘’A construction company came to the area in 2013 with equipment alongside some officials of the Lagos State government and we were told that they came to repair the road. We were happy that the government wanted to repair the road but after some time, they left and since then, the government never came back to fix the road.
‘’Several people have been here to know what we are passing through but nothing has happened. We pay street urchins to remove vehicles from muddy water,’’ he said.
A motorcycle rider plying the route, Vincent Adigibe said the state of the road before the construction company came to the place was better than the way it is now. ‘‘We continue taxing ourselves to rent pumping machine to drain the flood on the road after downpour, but we can do little to salvage the situation.
