The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign if he could not fish out killers of its Secretary General, Musa-Lawal Ozigi and Kwara State chairman of the body, Akin Akinsola, and other innocent Nigerians killed in Monday’s Abuja-Kaduna train bombing.

It threatened action should the issue be beclouded with bureaucracy.

In a statement, yesterday, TUC President, Quadri Olaleye, regretted that four days after the gruesome murder of the defenceless Nigerians, no perpetrator had been brought to book.

He stated that “no sensible government would just observe a one-minute silence at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting of March 30, without taking a decision to end the unbridled killings of Nigerians.”

Olaleye insisted that no government “sits and watches its people die like chickens,” stating that it was clear that this “administration has performed far below average in providing security to Nigerians.”

Consequently, the union mandated its affiliates nationwide and civil society allies to pressure the government in discharging its constitutional role of protecting the citizens and properties.

The Labour centre advised the government to go beyond mere condoling families of deceased and condemnation to giving a marching order to security chiefs to unfailingly fish out and punish perpetrators of dastardly acts.

The TUC boss urged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to quit if it could no longer guarantee the security of Nigerians.

The union directed workers across all spheres to wear black hand bands as mark of displeasure for the insecurity in the country, “which of course, is responsible for the death of our comrades.”

The statement said: “We are determined to continue the struggle for which our comrades paid the supreme price. We will not be deterred until we have an egalitarian Nigeria, where governance is not left in the hands of charlatans; a country where the lives of the citizens matter and our collective prosperity is equitably shared.”

“Paradoxically, the Buhari-led administration, in its campaign manifesto, promised to tame insecurity and protect lives and properties – that is what is lacking today in Nigeria.

“Our road, air and rail transport systems are no longer safe. These promises, in our opinion, are nothing but a ploy orchestrated just to take power. It is awful and very clear that Nigerians have become the sacrificial lamb for politicians.”
