Governor Ben Ayade has encouraged the Igbo and other residents of Cross River State to resist unnecessary taxation.

There have been cases of multiple and unnecessary taxation in the state despite the governor’s friendly tax regime to businesses.

Reacting to complaints of extortions by tax officials at his installation as Eze Ndi Igbo in Cross River State by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo during the celebration of the first Igbo Cultural Day and the 28th anniversary of Nna Ndi Igbo of Cross River State, Sir Emmanuel Ezenwanyi, held in Calabar at he weekend, Ayade said it was unfortunate that such practice was still going on.

He said one of the first bills he signed into law was for the eradication of taxes on the poor and low income earners to help ameliorate their suffering, but that was not being heeded by some tax officials who are bent on circumventing the law.

“Resist anyone who comes to tax you unnecessarily because when someone comes to take away a generator used by a barber for not paying tax, it is inhuman”, Ayade charged.
