Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku, has cautioned against examination malpractices, insisting that anyone caught will be dealt with in accordance with prescribed rules and regulations governing the conduct of examination.

Ebeku stated this yesterday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while monitoring the 2021 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the state.

“We are here to ensure that the examination (especially as students write English Language paper nationwide) goes on seamlessly. We don’t condone malpractices in Rivers State and we will not allow anyone to cheat,” he said.

He also cautioned students against compromising their future by indulging in malpractices, adding that he was confident that students were prepared for the examinations and so should have no reason to engage in any form of misconduct.

Besides, the Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Felix Obuah, has warned against dumping of refuse on middle of the roads, especially in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Obuah, who stressed that the ban on dumping of wastes on major roads and streets of Port Harcourt and its environs was still in force and would be strictly enforced, enjoined residents to strictly adhere to the approved dumping hours of 6:00p.m –12 midnight at approved receptacles.

He spoke when Director of Environmental Health and Head of Operations of RIWAMA, Mrs. Helen Ohaka led Environmental Health Students on industrial training with the agency to visit him (Obuah) in his office.

Obuah said the only way to stay out of trouble was for residents and businessmen is Port Harcourt and its environs to obey the ban on dumping of wastes and adhere strictly to the time frame for evacuation of wastes daily.

He enjoined the students to use the knowledge and experience gained during their internship to boost their environmental health consciousness and let the general public benefit from their experiences by serving as RIWAMA crusaders in preaching the gospel of clean and healthy living and environment.

Obuah restated that the task force set on enforcement of the ban would be working constantly to ensure compliance, stressing that defaulters would be arrested and prosecuted without delay.
