Female aspirant for Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the 2023 general elections, Dr. Patience Osaroejiji, has identified poor economy, and lack of support as factors discouraging women from contesting 2023 elections.

Osaroejiji, who is the chairman, of the Coalition of Ogoni Women, is vying under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Speaking, yesterday, in an interview with The Guardian in Eleme Council of Rivers State, she said the wife of former President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, in 2011 supported and encouraged female aspirants unlike these days that nobody cares about women’s participation in politics.

She said: “Mrs. Patience Jonathan made a great effort to push women to contest for various political positions, she supported us, encouraged us but this time, there is no single support from any angle.

“In 2011, I was the senatorial candidate of ANPP for Rivers South East District. Obviously, women do not have money, the economy is very difficult and it is affecting our interest in politics.

“The President’s wife, Aisha Buhari, and the international communities should encourage more women.”

We are talking about the inclusiveness of women, if we don’t come out, how can we be included to a point where we can do something. I am willing and ready to contest next year’s poll, likewise many other women but we need support.”
