Rivers State Taskforce on Flood Management has said it is working round the clock to resettle victims of flood in six councils of the state as flood water recedes.

The task force said it had procured beddings, treated nets and improved cassava stems to hand over to flood victims to help them settle quickly as the flood recedes.

The committee made the disclosure during the handover of relief materials to council chairmen and inspection of the warehouse of relief items purchased by the state government to ameliorate the impact of the flood.

Speaking during the handover of the relief items to the chairmen of Emohua and Akuku-Toru Council, the task force Chairman, Dr. George Nwaeke, stated that the supply of food items would be sustained even as the flood water recedes, adding that the committee has moved to the next phase of resettling Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

He said: “We have handed food items to the chairman of Emohua Council for distribution to the families that have been displaced and unable to cater for themselves. As we said earlier, the families that have been impacted have been properly relocated to a primary school in Nmeogu, Rumuekpe. And the chairman has been up and doing all this time.”
