Road crashes: Sightsavers, NEHP conduct free eye care for commercial drivers

To reduce road crashes, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), through the National Eye Health Programme (NEHP) in partnership with Sightsavers, has conducted free eye care treatment for commercial drivers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

To reduce road crashes, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), through the National Eye Health Programme (NEHP) in partnership with Sightsavers, has conducted free eye care treatment for commercial drivers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The Guardian learnt that the initiative was part of activities to mark the 2022 World Sight Day (WSD) with the theme: “Love Your Eyes’’, to raise global awareness on eye health.

Speaking during the event in Abuja, representative of NEHP, Dr. Obi Chimezie, said the exercise in Nyanya and Jabi parks was aimed at raising awareness among motorists, transporters on the need for regular eye checks to reduce road accidents.

While expressing concerns over increasing number of Nigerians in need of eye care, he said: “This is a way of giving back to the public. We teamed up to ensure the safety of eye health of drivers in the country.

“We provide the best Opthamologists, Opticians, Optometrists and eye specialists to conduct free medical eye check up on motor drivers.”
