GUN-SHOOTING3A GANG of four armed robbers yesterday killed three people, including a policeman along Olu-Obasanjo Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Guardian gathered that the victims had just made huge withdrawal and were heading home when they were attacked by the bandits who may have capitalised on the perennial hold-up in that axis of the city.

Eyewitnesses said that the hoodlums, who had trailed the deceased trio, shot directly into their car, before carting away the money.

It was further gathered that the robbers drove a Toyota Camry car, but because of the thick traffic, parked few metres away from the Rivers Transport Company (RTC) and walked to their targets’ vehicle.

The identity of the dead police escort, however, could not be ascertained as at press time.

According an eyewitness who gave his name as Emma, “the police escort was the main target of the robbery gang, because they first shot him dead, before killing the driver of the Honda car and the owner of the large sum,” he said.

Another eyewitness said: “The hoodlums parked at the back because of traffic; they then trekked to where the Honda car they attacked was parked and killed the official, the policeman and the driver instantly.

I lost bestman in similar circumstance on the the Olu Obasanjo axis too after he drove a friend to the bank to withdraw N1.5m. The car was accosted by the hoodlums who shot him at point balnk to death and carted away the money. Sadly in their own case there was a patrol pick-up a few meters away and no police man was found in the vehicle when the attack took place. Lesson is let us try to use other cashless channels to do transfers and cash transaction.
