Rotary Club donates medical equipment to Onikan hospital

To kick off the execution of its star project, the president, Rotary Club of Lagos, Ehi Braimah, on Wednesday, led club members to Onikan Health Centre and Maternal Hospital, for the donation of medical equipment.

This, Braimah said is part of fulfilling the club’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). “Whatever we can do in the area of child and maternal care can never be enough, hence there is a need for continues effort to ensure that lives are not lost in the process of childbirth.”

The Acting Deputy Medical Director of Onikan Health Centre, Ademuyiwa Olarewaju, said the gesture by the club would go a long way in maintaining the standard of the hospital as well as save the lives of children and their mothers.

“As little as a blood pressure machine can cause death if not available when needed. It is encouraging to know that individuals could come together and help donate to the cause of maintaining a government-owned facility.”

In response to the question of maintenance of the new equipment, Olarewaju said the hospital has an engineer who deals with day-to-day hospital equipment maintenance.

The items donated include an extended collapsible stretcher, nebulizer machine, suction machine, adult weighing scale, digital sphyg, amongst others.

In attendance was the District Governor, District 9110, Rotary International, Kola Sodipo, in his first official assignment after his installment this month. Sodipo said it is the duty of every Rotarian to be an inspiration to others, by doing good always.

“There are various challenges facing mankind, but as a club we focus on disease prevention and treatment, welfare and sanitation, maternal and childcare, basic education and literacy, economic and community development, getting helpless children off the street and finally in the area of peace and conflict resolution, those are some of the ways we can be inspire members of the society.”

The club also recognized the MD/CEO, Idea House Marketing Communications Limited, Kehinde Salami, with an award for donating 500 treated mosquito nets, worth N1 million to help meet the club’s intention of giving out 1,000 mosquito nets to hospitals.
