Rotary Club of Ikeja Golden fetes pupils at basic education, literacy project

Over 200 pupils of Anwar-Ul-Islam Primary School, Oba Akran, Ogba Agege, Lagos benefitted from the basic education and literacy project carried out by Rotary Club of Ikeja Golden.
The project tagged ‘Reading with the Rotarians’, featured reading, donation of 40 leaf exercise books, socks, pencils, rulers, and erasers, among others with refreshments. Umbrellas were also given to the teachers.
Speaking at the programme, Imaginative President, Rotarian Adebowale Olumide, said prior to coming to the school to execute the project, the club was there to carry out a need assessment to know the basic needs of the pupils.
She expressed happiness that the club was able to put smiles on the faces of the pupils with the donations, adding that before November this year, the club would be coming back to do something very major.
“We understand the fact that hands are not equal. However, we plead with parents to do their best for their wards.
“We also believe that with people like us and other good people that will be coming to their assistance, the children will excel in their studies and the Lord will help them,” she said.
Olumide expressed hope to set up an interactive club in the school while, appreciating the school management for giving the club the opportunity to do what it did.
She outlined other projects for her Rotary year to include helping widows, carrying out maternal and child health projects, training, supporting students in secondary school, as well as having peace clubs of 40 students who are being trained.
Assistant Governor to the club, Rotarian Fadairo Olalekan, said the project carried out falls under the seven areas of focus of Rotary International.
“I am so happy and the children too and the club has identified another need of the school which it would come again to carry out,” he said.
Director of Education, Head of Socio-Mobilisation, Agege, Bankole Olakunle, appreciated the club with words of encouragement to keep doing good.
Head Teacher of the School, Yetunde Grace Ademola, said the club did well, putting smiles on the faces of the pupils.
