The Rotary Club of Ogudu Government Residential Area (GRA) said it has projected a 30 per cent increase in membership this year, even as it also increases the professionalism of members.
The move, the club said, is about targeting individuals committed to service and adding value professionally, financially, and socially to foster peace and unity in its area of service.
Speaking during a membership sensitisation walk to mark Rotary’s Membership Month, the President of the club, Gbemileke Afolabi, said the initiative is aimed at boosting awareness and attracting new members.
He said it also encourages wider participation in the club’s service projects and strengthens its role in fostering peace and community development.
Afolabi said the initiative reflects one of Rotary International’s core objectives of attracting quality individuals from communities across the world to work towards a conflict-free, united, and prosperous society.
“When there is peace and no conflict in society, there will be growth and economic prosperity. That is why Rotary continues to emphasise membership and awareness, ensuring sustainability for people and communities across the globe,” Afolabi explained.
Afolabi noted that the Rotary theme for the year, “United for Good,” was the guiding vision behind the membership campaign, noting that the new membership target is to make the immediate environment a better haven for everyone.
He added that the membership sensitisation walk highlights part of Rotary’s global effort to expand its network of professionals and community leaders dedicated to service above self, driving peacebuilding in society and sustainable development.
“Our goal is to bring in people who are ready to contribute in every way to make our immediate environment a better haven for everyone,” Afolabi said.
