He also urged the youth to uphold the club seven national core values which include integrity, discipline, self-reliance, patriotism, dignity of labour among others, so that they can bring forth the needed change the country requires.

He gave the admonition during the closing ceremony of Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) 2021, organised by Rotary International, District 9110 with the theme: ‘Youth Striving To Change Lives’, which took place at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja.

Bello described the event with the largest turn out of youth since the inception of the programme 36 years ago, as a formidable training ground for future leaders, who are also equipped with vocational skills in diverse trades.

“At the just concluded programme, where the participants were duly prepared for their future, not less than 22 facilitators were on ground with more than 100 volunteer instructors to ensure that the participants leave camp with such nuggets that have turned their lives around.

“RYLA 2021 is an experience not to be forgotten in a hurry which has impacted highly on the youth that participated, who are leaving this camp as new breeds that would positively affect our nation,” he said.

The district governor reminded them to embrace the lessons in the acronym ‘VUCA’ which means volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity and face the future with the application of each of them in the pursuance of their ambition.
He charged them to go out there into various communities and be youth ambassadors that would lead Nigerians to their dreams.

RYLA Chair, 2021, Rotarian Dare Adeyeri, congratulated the youth on their successful camping.

“I believe you were able to get your role models among the distinguished facilitators you were lucky to have during this programme.

“You are therefore advised to go and effect the changes you have imbibed among other youth out there,” he said.

President, Rotary Club of Maryland, Rotarian Bamidele Onalaja, one of the clubs that sponsored the closing ceremony, told the participants to regard themselves as leaders of today.

He told them to make good use of the basic skills they have acquired during their training and continue to uphold the five Rotary core values which include: service, leadership, integrity, fellowship and diversity.

“Imbibe the 4-Way Test and fly with it. Henceforth, manifest discipline in your academics and work place as we would like to be proud of you,” he said.
