Rotary Ogudu GRA partners LAWMA to clear wastes in communities

Rotary Club of Ogudu GRA has collaborated with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to clear wastes in communities and ensure residents adopt proper sanitation and hygiene.

President, Rotary Club of Ogudu GRA, Tokunbo Opanubi, said the project was to commemorate the club’s sanitation, water and hygiene month. He said the club was very passionate about giving back to its environment by keeping it clean as well as making it more habitable for residents.

Also speaking, Chairman, Rotary Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Project, Gbemileke Afolabi, stressed the need to protect the earth and as well prevent degradation of the environment.

He said there is a lot of flooding and deforestation, which is bringing the greenhouse effect and global warming that has impacted humanity and communities.

According to him, it is important to find ways to protect the earth, which is why the club has embarked on this initiative of clearing the environment to improve the quality of life.

This is part of the impact on humanity in our community.

“We are trying to lead by example. There should be a proper way of cleaning that should be done on a regular basis. The refuse should be properly disposed of as well. We are partnering with LAWMA that is saddled with the responsibility of properly disposing of this refuse to prevent disease on humanity,” he said.

Supervisor at LAWMA, Oyinlola James, commended the Rotary initiative, while calling on other organisations to join hands to ensure a clean and safe environment to prevent outbreak of diseases.

“LAWMA is doing its best. We have PSP trucks coming into the area, but members of the public show themselves as people who are not hygienic. We see them and other road users disposing of refuse indiscriminately.

“We keep telling them to keep Lagos clean which they refuse to abide by. We appreciate the Rotary project and it is an encouragement to us,” he said.
