Rotary plants 100 trees in Bauchi

Rotary Club of Bauchi Central has planted 100 trees at the new housing estate in Dunga, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis, to curb desertification in the state.

President of the Club, Nonso Nwobi, after planting the trees, yesterday, described environmental protection as one of the cardinal agenda of the Club.

His words: “Today, we have planted 100 trees. Tree planting is one of the humanitarian services that Rotary offers to save the environment.

“The purposes of these trees include beautifying the new estate, providing shade and serving as the windbreaker.”

Nwobi added that the trees had outgrown nurturing; hence would not require continued watering or manuring.

He urged other well-meaning citizens to join the Club in giving back to society and humanity.

Other humanitarian services the club lined up for the year include cleaning of drainages, building soak-away and other environmental services.

Assistant Governor, Rotary International District 9125, Gabriel Omachi, who represented the District Governor, said the Club was keen on environmental protection.

“We are particularly glad that the neem tree is being planted in this estate. This will give the occupants of these areas oxygen and other benefits,” he added.
