The newly installed Governor of Rotary International District 9127, Rotarian Sikiru Owonikoko, has unveiled plans to institutionalise artificial intelligence, expand membership and strengthen accountability across the district.
Speaking at the commencement of a new rotary year and handover ceremony in Abuja yesterday, Owonikoko said his administration would prioritise building a digitally enabled and disciplined rotary structure focused on delivering measurable impact.
Stating that the district is set for a technology-driven transformation, Owonikoko said the unit is building a digitally enabled, future-ready and people-centred rotary that honours the organisation’s traditions while boldly embracing innovations.
He said the new leadership has a responsibility to move Rotary beyond traditional approaches and prepare the district for the future with lasting impacts.
According to him, a major focus of the administration will be leveraging technology and artificial intelligence to improve coordination and service delivery.
To this end, he said the district had subscribed to an artificial intelligence-powered platform for the next 10 years to support planning, communication and management of rotary activities.
Among others, Owonikoko disclosed that all district events would be planned and tracked through a unified digital system, while official information would be delivered to Rotarians in real time.
Earlier in her handover speech, the immediate past District Governor, Dr Joy Okoro, said the district recorded significant growth in membership, club expansion and humanitarian projects during the 2025–2026 Rotary year.
She highlighted key interventions to include 20 per cent DDF allocation to polio eradication, a $34,000 mammography machine for Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Kaduna, and provision of medical equipment, construction of two classroom blocks with 100 desks, and donation of 80 school desks, among others.
