The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Slomon Arase, has said that the Nigeria Police Force is partnering with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to attain universal health coverage in Nigeria.

Arase stated this at a symposium on Universal Health Coverage in honour of outgoing Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Police Medical Services, Grace Okudo, on Monday in Abuja.

He was represented by the Commissioner of Police in charge of welfare, Mr Samuel Ogunjemilusi.

The inspector-general said that the force had indeed set the pace in ensuring a healthy police workforce.

The NHIS has boosted our health service delivery which has been manifested in the establishment of improved healthcare facilities in Nigeria Police medical services,” he said.

He said the police management under him was doing everything to improve the welfare of its officers and men.
He urged participants to come up with a roadmap on how to achieve the universal health coverage in Nigeria.

The I-G said that the Nigeria Police Medical Service would soon boast of tertiary care facilities and numerous secondary care facilities.

The Universal health coverage is aimed at ensuring that all Nigerians have access to promotion, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health services they need.

Earlier, Okudo said that funding was still a problem to the attainment of universal health coverage for the Nigeria police.(NAN)
