kegA Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Nasarawa State, on Monday remanded a 23-year-old sales boy, Lewis Peter, in Keffi Prison custody for stealing 25 litres of petrol valued N30,000.

The accused, a resident of Mararaba, is facing a two-count charge of shop breaking and theft.

The Judge, Albert Maga, ordered that the accused be remanded in the prison custody till June 19, when he would be sentenced after he had pleaded guilty to the charges.

“You are to be remanded in Keffi Prison custody till June 19 for ruling,’’ he said.

Prosecutor Friday Adaji had told the court that one Happiness James of Kabayi Mararaba, reported the matter at the `A’ Divisional Police Station on June 10.

Adaji said the complaint went to her shop located before Dunamis Church in Mararaba and saw the accused stealing her 25 litres of petrol and motorcycle oil, all valued at N30,000.

“ When I came to my shop in the morning on June 10, I saw the accused stealing my 25 litres of fuel and motorcycle oil which was kept in my shop.

“I tried to raise an alarm but the accused threatened to hit me with a hammer before he ran away,’’ she said.

The prosecutor alleged that the accused had been a perpetual criminal who had been arrested and charged to court on several times.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 349 and 287 of the Penal Code.
