Lawal, 43, who lives at 3, Fatolu St., Ipaja, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and causing a breach of the peace.

For allegedly stealing her employer’s goods valued at N832, 830, a saleswoman, Yemisi Lawal, was on Friday arraigned in an Abule Egba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Lawal, 43, who lives at 3, Fatolu St., Ipaja, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and causing a breach of the peace.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp Racheal Williams, had told the court that the offences were committed between October 2013 and 2014 at Ipaja.

She said the complainant, Mrs Rose Ibini, handed over her shop to the accused while she was away.

“On her return, she discovered that the goods in her shop had dwindled while the proceeds of the sales could not be produced.

“The accused promised to refund the money, but has failed to redeem her promise for almost a year now.’’

The offences, according to the prosecutor, violate Sections 166 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Mrs Adenike Shoubi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N750,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case to April 29 for trial.
