Sallah: Emir Sanusi hails Yusuf’s 30% education budget allocation

The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Dr Muhammadu Sanusi II

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for allocating 30 per cent of the state’s 2026 budget to education, describing it as a strong commitment to improving teaching and learning.

Sanusi also stressed the importance of girl-child education in Northern Nigeria, urging parents and husbands not to prevent women from accessing quality education.

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria spoke on Sunday when he paid the traditional Sallah homage (Hawan Nassarawa) to the Government House in Kano as part of activities marking the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

The Emir, who expressed appreciation for the honour accorded him by the state government, also explained his decision to return to school to study law at Northwest University, Kano.

According to him, “My return to school is not because of court matters, but to encourage others in my position to seek knowledge. Education comes before kingship. A king who acquires education attains greater dignity, but a king without education is entirely a worthless king.”

In his remarks, Governor Yusuf urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence for the overall development of the state, irrespective of political or religious differences.

Represented by the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ismail Jibrin Falgore, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to human development and the wellbeing of citizens.

“As we celebrate, I call on all citizens to avoid actions that could threaten the peace and stability of our dear state. Let us uphold the values of tolerance, mutual respect, and harmonious coexistence regardless of our differences,” he said.

He also urged parents and guardians to guide their children and youths to remain law-abiding and conduct themselves responsibly throughout the Sallah celebrations.

The governor assured residents of the government’s continued commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state.
