The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the main Karatudu-Romi road in Chikun Local Government, 13 years after successive administrations abandoned the project.
Speaking at the ceremony, the governor recalled that Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa had awarded the contract for constructing the road, but after his death, the project was stalled.
Reiterating the importance of the road to the people of Karatudu and Unguwan Romi, he emphasised that his government has been giving priority to rural areas and places where the less privileged live.
The governor promised that the road will be completed in eight months, as the project will be executed by a reputable contractor. He added that the company will mobilise to the site immediately.
Our government keeps to its promises, and we don’t play politics of deceit. Our priority is to execute projects that can be verified. That is why in our little over two years in office, we have awarded over 83 road contracts and we have completed 31 of them,” he said.
He added, ”Politics is not about propaganda. It is about executing meaningful projects that will impact people’s lives. Some politicians who had abandoned this area in the past have now come to deceive you again.”
Sani clarified that the groundbreaking of Karatudu Road will cover all the township roads in the area, including Cemetery Road, Lusawa Road, School Road to Karatudu, and Jemaá Road.
According to him, the proposed road project will stretch from the Romi community to Karatudu, adding that there is an ongoing road project that stretches from Keke to Makera, Doka Mai Jema’a to Dan Hono in Kujama ward of Chikun Local Government.
The governor also stated that the Water Intake Road, from Unguwan Mai Gero to Narayi in Chukun Local Government, has been commissioned.
He further pledged that the road project from the Zenith Bank roundabout, by Kachia Road, to Flour Mill, linking Chikun and Kaduna South local governments, will commence within a week.
Sani also disclosed that funds have been released and the construction of the abandoned Television Garage Road to Sabon Tasha, which links four electoral wards, will commence next week.
All the road projects are located in the Southern parts of the Kaduna metropolis.
