Citing poor quality of teachers particularly in Northern public secondary schools, Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has charged state governors in the region to recruit qualified tutors to check mass failure by students in senior school certificate examination.

Sanusi, who lamented the recurrent poor performance of candidates writing the National Examinations Council (NECO) particularly in northern Nigeria blamed government for the shortage of trained teachers in public schools.

The emir, who spoke yesterday while receiving the management team of the National Examinations Council, insisted that the performance of students in any examination could only be measured on credibility and efficiency of their teachers.
