The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, charged boys to imbibe discipline and consider careers in the military and security services.
Sanwo-Olu spoke when she took boys selected from different secondary schools across the state under the Lagos Boy Child Initiative (LBCI) 2026, an initiative of the Office of the First Lady, on an exposition tour to Command Day Secondary School, T.A. Lagbaja Cantonment, Ikeja, and NNS Beecroft, Apapa, Lagos.
The LBCI, now in its fourth edition, aims to promote educational opportunities and build a generation of transformed male children who will contribute positively to the society. Over 500 boys from public and private schools, correctional facilities, and other backgrounds are participating in this year’s edition.
She noted that in Lagos State, the interest in military and security careers is not as high as expected, which she attributed to limited exposure and understanding of the operations and opportunities within these institutions.
She added that the tour was organised to expose the boys to careers in the military and encourage them to consider taking them in the future.
In his remark, Commander of the 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ikeja, Brig.-Gen. Ayokunle Owolabi, commended the First Lady for the initiative and described it as a noble platform to shape the mentality of boys and mentor them from negative influences.
