Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, on Friday, said that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration is committed to the welfare of the citizens and the development of the state.
Speaking during a Joint Citizens’ Engagement Forum, Omotoso stated that the Sanwo-Olu administration has done so much for the betterment of the citizens. The commissioner admitted the shortage of pipe borne water in the state, disclosing that the state government was making frantic efforts to complete Adiyan II water works as part of efforts to ensure the provision of potable water in the state.
During the briefing, the commissioner, who reeled out some of the achievements of the governor, stated that the government would not relent in its effort to yield to the demands of the people.
While stressing the importance the government attaches to the project, Omotoso said: “There are challenges on water supply, like rust pipes, sabotage, wastage, 30 per cent of what we need is what we have. A state like Lagos, 30 per cent is just a drop in the ocean.
“Once we have Adiyan II of 70 million gallons per day, it will go a long way. But I won’t deceive you, it requires a lot of money.”
The commissioner disclosed that the governor has signed a cheque to pay compensation for buildings demolished for the right of way for the water, stating that some of the owners had even said they were not interested in money.
“There are those who said they don’t want money. Once it is complete, just give us water into our homes,” he disclosed.
“It is going to reach a substantial level this year. By the time we have other mini water works becoming operational and Adiyan water works, we will have solved water challenges in Lagos,” he said.
